Maker&Son and British Heart Foundation partnership

We are delighted to be working with the British Heart Foundation on a free collection service for old furniture and homewares for our customers.

FAQs:

The British Heart Foundation is a UK charity funding around £100 million of research into all heart and circulatory diseases and the things that cause them. It also provides resources and support for those being diagnosed or living with heart conditions.

The BHF ensures that around 70p of every £1 goes towards life saving research, with the rest invested to grow their income.

The BHF offers a free furniture collection service across the UK making it an ideal service for our customers. Collection is organised by the customer at the time that is most convenient for them, with regular slots available.

The BHF are able to collect from nearly all postcodes in the UK bar those that are very remote. Collections are quick and easy, covid secure and require no signature.

Our role is to promote and encourage our customers to use the service; to keep perfectly good furniture out of landfill and to give it a second life, raising funds from each sale for the BHF. As an organisation we are working towards B Corp certification, and it’s important that we recognise the impact of furniture waste on our environment and do all we can to minimise this, while encouraging our customers to do the same.

We will receive a monthly report on how many customers have used the service, the funds we’ve raised and the environmental impact of this e.g. how much we’ve saved from landfill.

This page has been designed to provide our customers with all the information on the service. There is a link here (Book a free collection that will direct our customers to a unique page on the BHF website to request a collection. There you will have the opportunity to request 2 collection days that suit you. All you need to do is enter your preferred dates and the items you’d like collected. The BHF will then contact you to confirm the date and time, and send any reminders and updates.

There is also a QR code at the bottom of the page which will take you to the same page on the BHF website.

Please note that as you will be redirected to the BHF website, Maker&Son will have no involvement with the collection and no visibility on what has been agreed between the BHF and you, the customer. Maker&Son do not share any customer information with the BHF and the BHF is fully GDPR compliant.

The BHF will collect sofas and any other furniture as well as electrical items. Please bear in mind that sofas will need to have a fire label and need to be in a condition suitable for resale. Similarly, any other furniture or electrical items that customers are requesting to be collected, will need to be suitable for resale.

Here is a list of items that can not be collected. This list is available on the BHF website too.

Pretty much all UK postcodes, bar those that are very remote. The first step of the booking process is to enter your postcode so you will know immediately if it isn’t possible.

Lead times for collection do vary depending on location and how busy an area is. Some customers may be able to book with just a day or two of notice whereas others it will be over a week. Given this, we recommend that you book 2 weeks ahead of a delivery from Maker&Son, to ensure that you get your first choice of a collection date.

You can change their date up to 24 hrs before collection. Just contact BHF to do this.
